ORLANDO PIRATES CHASE MTN8 HISTORY
History is also within touching distance for Orlando Pirates. Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men could retain the trophy. If successful, they will become the first club to win the MTN8 in five consecutive seasons.
The MTN8 quarter-finals will be played across Saturday, 8 August, and Sunday, 9 August, with four mouthwatering fixtures set to decide this season’s semi-finalists.

Last season, Orlando Pirates retained the trophy by defeating Stellenbosch 3-0 after extra time in the final. Following a goalless 90 minutes, Tshepang Moremi opened the scoring in the 92nd minute before Tshegofatso Mabasa doubled the advantage. Moremi completed his brace in the 110th minute to cap a memorable victory and secure another Wafa Wafa crown.
KAIZER CHIEFS RETURN TO WAFA WAFA
While Orlando Pirates chase history, Kaizer Chiefs will be determined to mark their return to the MTN8 with a winning performance against Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Amakhosi have enjoyed an encouraging start to the Betway Premiership under Fernando da Cruz, and another positive result would strengthen belief that the club is ready to compete for silverware once again. However, Lamontville Golden Arrows will be equally motivated to spoil the occasion and book a place in the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, Mamelodi Sundowns face a difficult challenge against a well-drilled Polokwane City side, while AmaZulu and Sekhukhune United meet in what promises to be one of the most evenly balanced quarter-finals.
With a place in the semi-finals on the line and the first trophy of the season up for grabs, supporters can expect another thrilling weekend as the 2026/27 MTN8 officially gets underway.
