Only three Premier Soccer League fixtures this week

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS FACE MARUMO GALLANTS TEST

The midweek action belongs to reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns. They will finally play their postponed Betway Premiership fixture against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

The match takes place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30. Mamelodi Sundowns will look to use home advantage to collect another three points.

Marumo Gallants, meanwhile, face a difficult challenge against the league champions on their own turf. The result could have an important impact on the early Betway Premiership standings after a 3-1 loss to Stellenbosch FC.

PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE’S MTN8 SEMI-FINALS TAKE CENTRE STAGE

Attention then turns to the MTN8 this weekend as the semi-final first legs take centre stage.

The draw has produced two exciting encounters. Sekhukhune United will host Orlando Pirates in one semi-final, while Mamelodi Sundowns will welcome Golden Arrows in the other.

For Sundowns, it means a busy week with both league and cup commitments. The PSL is expected to confirm the exact dates, venues and kick-off times for the two semi-final first legs by Monday night.

Supporters will therefore need to keep an eye on the league’s official channels for the final details. With the Betway Premiership and MTN8 both taking centre stage, South African football has another important week ahead.

Orlando Pirates have dominated the MTN8 in recent years, winning the tournament for five consecutive editions from 2021 to 2025.

Over the past decade, five different clubs have lifted the trophy. Bidvest Wits won the 2016 edition before SuperSport United claimed back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2019.

Cape Town City lifted the trophy in 2018, while Mamelodi Sundowns secured their only title of the decade in 2021.

The remaining editions went to Orlando Pirates, who won in 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The Buccaneers have therefore established themselves as the dominant force in the competition.
