SABC has confirmed it will televise Orlando Pirates’ MTN8 quarter-final against Durban City on Saturday.
The national broadcaster announced the news on its social media platforms. Live coverage will begin at 14:30 on SABC 1 with match build-up ahead of the 15:00 SAST kick-off at Orlando Amstel Arena.
ORLANDO PIRATES CHASING MORE HISTORY
The Soweto giants head into the match chasing a record-breaking fifth consecutive MTN8 title. The Buccaneers began their remarkable run in 2022 when they defeated AmaZulu 1-0 in the final. Monnapule Saleng scored the winning goal to hand the club its first trophy under former coach Jose Riveiro.
They defended the title in 2023 after beating Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties following a goalless final. Goalkeeper Sipho Chaine emerged as the hero with three penalty saves.
Orlando Pirates made more history in 2024 by defeating Stellenbosch FC 3-1 to become the first club in the PSL era to win three consecutive MTN8 titles.
They extended that record last season under Abdeslam Ouaddou. They beat Stellenbosch FC 3-0 after extra time. Tshepang Moremi scored twice as the Buccaneers secured a fourth straight crown and their 14th MTN8 title.
DURBAN CITY EYE UPSET
Durban City will arrive in Soweto determined to spoil the party. The Nedbank Cup holders have strengthened their squad under new coach Khalil Ben Youssef and will believe they can challenge the defending champions.
They also frustrated Orlando Pirates in a goalless Betway Premiership draw when the sides last met.
A victory on Saturday would move Orlando Pirates one step closer to another piece of history, while Durban City will be aiming to produce one of the biggest upsets of the MTN8 quarter-finals.
