The MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns could have a huge effect on the PSL season.
The Buccaneers will be aiming for a fifth straight trophy when they face Bafana ba Style on 10 October.
Whoever wins here will also claim the bragging rights, stretching into the new year.

According to Transfermarkt, the PSL’s top two are set for two important meetings next year.
9 January 2027: Loftus Versfeld Stadium
24 April 2027: Orlando Stadium
This means that the MTN8 final will be their only competitive encounter for the remainder of 2026.
It also means the April 2027 clash, coming in matchweek 26, may decide who claims the PSL title.
Why the MTN8 final could matter more this season
The three months between the MTN8 final and their next PSL clash could be an advantage for whoever wins.
Whoever wins in October gets the head-to-head edge, the trophy, and will be unchallenged into the new year.
The next chance to settle the score only comes at Loftus in January, when the title race could be very different.
The MTN8 final could also be a preview of South Africa’s top teams and how their respective campaigns are taking shape.
With Sundowns holding onto a big lead in the standings, and Pirates defending the title, the January and April games could be the most important fixtures of the season.
What’s next for Sundowns and Pirates?
The Buccaneers head into their next PSL game versus Durban City on 17 September at the Orlando Stadium (19:30).
Pirates have been busy on the continental front and are through to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
According to the CAF website, they will face Namibia’s African Stars next month.
Reigning champions Sundowns, meanwhile, will begin their title defence against Angola’s Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela.
Details for these CAF CL matches, including the venues, will be confirmed at a later stage.
