Kaizer Chiefs made it five successive wins in the Betway Premiership with an emphatic 4-1 triumph over Magesi FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Glamour Boys delivered a polished attacking display, with goals from Flavio Da Silva, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala and Khanyisa Mayo sealing a comfortable win, while Diteboho Mofokeng grabbed a consolation for the hosts.
Cagey start
After a cagey start on a heavy surface, Kaizer Chiefs gradually imposed themselves, though clear-cut chances were initially limited.
The breakthrough arrived in the 33rd minute in spectacular fashion.
Da Silva showcased individual brilliance, controlling a headed pass from Glody Lilepo before flicking the ball up, spinning, and firing a precise volley into the far corner.
Buoyed by the opener, Kaizer Chiefs quickly doubled their advantage just four minutes later.
Duba reacted quickest at the far post to convert after a defensive lapse from Magesi following a corner, continuing his impressive scoring form.
Measured approach
Holding a 2-0 lead at the break, Amakhosi adopted a more measured approach in the second half, inviting pressure and looking to exploit spaces on the counter-attack.
The tactic paid off in the 62nd minute when Shabalala finished clinically from close range after a well-worked move involving substitute Reeve Frosler.
Magesi FC briefly threatened a comeback when Mofokeng headed home in the 69th minute, but any hopes of a revival were short-lived.
Kaizer Chiefs maintained control and continued to create chances, with Mayo eventually putting the result beyond doubt in the 83rd minute, heading home from close range after another excellent delivery from Frosler.
Stayed third in the standings
The victory sees Kaizer Chiefs remain third on the table with 45 points from 23 matches, keeping pressure on the teams above them as the season enters its closing stages.
They will return to the same venue this weekend to face Polokwane City, aiming to extend their winning run ahead of the highly anticipated Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates on Sunday, 26 April.
