
The Kaizer Chiefs announcement brings an end to the 27-year-old’s four-year stay at Naturena. He joined Amakhosi from Swallows FC in July 2022 alongside Dillan Solomons and Kamohelo Mahlatsi.
Matlou’s becomes the second player exit after Aden McCarthy’s move to the Azerbaijan-based Sabah FK.
KAIZER CHIEFS BID FAREWELL TO GEORGE MATLOU
In a statement released by the club, the Soweto giants confirmed that Matlou will not continue with the team beyond the expiry of his current deal.
“After four seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, George Matlou’s contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of June 2026.
“The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Glamour Boys from Swallows FC in July 2022 and played an important role in the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup during the 2024/25 season.
“We thank George for his commitment and contribution to Amakhosi and wish him well in his future career.”

Matlou arrived at Kaizer Chiefs with high expectations after impressing at Swallows FC. During his time at Naturena, he featured in several midfield roles. He became part of the squad that ended the club’s trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup.
His departure is expected to form part of a broader squad overhaul as Kaizer Chiefs continue preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
With Matlou now officially on the market as a free agent, attention will turn to his next destination while Kaizer Chiefs continue reshaping the squad ahead of the new season.
In the meantime, the club is expected to confirm more exits. Reports says the list will include Gaston Sirino, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Pule Mmodi, Tashreeq Morris and Fiacre Ntwari.
