Stellies Aim To Take Advantage Of Small Advantage vs Sundowns

Stellenbosch FC aims to take advantage of the extra day of rest when they face Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

Following a tight schedule at the start of the season, which saw Stellenbosch traveling often, Steve Barker emphasised the importance of playing a day before the Sundowns clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

Despite the extra day of rest, Barker mentioned that they must keep an eye on Sundowns’ quality with Iqraam Rayners being the main man.

“I think we’ve come off the travel from Pirates, we didn’t come back we went straight to Polokwane,” he stated.

“To have qualified for the final and getting our first home win and maybe having an extra day because Sundowns played (Chiefs) and then they had to travel I think it’s what we need.

“I think we need to put one a big effort on Saturday and then we have a FIFA break.”

The veteran coach also touched on seeing his former players in Rayners, Fawaaz Basadien, and Jaydan Adams. Barker mentioned that it’s good to see them striving in their new club and wished them the best.

“It’s always nice seeing your ex-players thriving and doing well so it will be nice to see a couple of them on the weekend,” he added.

“But we know the quality that they have, if you don’t keep a player like Rayners quiet he is gonna punish you.

“We know enough of their qualities and hopefully, we can navigate them. It will be nice to see them on Saturday.”
