Kaizer Chiefs have welcomed back another young defender. Xolani Cossa has returned to Naturena ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.
The 22-year-old left-footed centre-back was spotted training with the first team after spending last season on loan at Black Lions FC in Botswana.
His return comes after FARPost journalist Mthokozisi Dube reported that he has signed a new two-year contract until June 2028.
KAIZER CHIEFS REWARD COSSA
Cossa captained the Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge side before heading out on loan to gain senior experience. That move appears to have paid off.
The young defender is expected to travel with the Betway Premiership giants for the upcoming European pre-season tour. He has also been handed the number 35 jersey after Aden McCarthy left for Sabah FK in Azerbaijan.
His spell at Black Lions FC turned into a breakthrough season. Despite making his senior debut, he quickly earned the captain’s armband and became one of the first names on the teamsheet under experienced coach Owen Da Gama.
Cossa also showed he could contribute at both ends of the pitch. Besides producing consistent displays in defence, he scored important goals during the campaign.
Although Black Lions FC suffered relegation from the Botswana Premier League, Cossa’s performances still caught plenty of attention. Black Lions president Tendani Sebata praised him as an exceptional professional, while Kaizer Chiefs moved quickly to secure his long-term future.
The defender now returns to fight for minutes alongside Rushwin Dortley, Bradley Cross and the club’s other centre-backs as Kaizer Chiefs prepare for another busy season.
