TS Galaxy winger Seluleko Mahlambi says he wants to avoid what happened to his older brother Phakamani and use it as motivation to stay on course to build his career.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a good start to the season with Galaxy in the Betway Premiership where he has so far scored five goals and has two assists across all competitions. His good run has drawn comparisons with his older brother a former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker whose career took a turn with reported issues of discipline and off the field lifestyle.
The younger Mahlambi spoke to the media ahead of his side’s Carling Knockout quarter-final clash with Golden Arrows on Wednesday where he said he expected the comparisons to come. However, he has had advice from Phakamani and his father especially about focusing on doing right. The former Cape Town City man also said he is determined to build his own name.
“From home my dad has warned me that in this career I want to follow I’m going to have to be compared with my brother, what he has achieved and the kind of life he has led,” said Mahlambi.
“That maybe there will be expectations for me to do better than him. So, I expected this because my dad made sure that when I get to this stage, this does not play in my head and for me to make sure that I build my own name.

“He [Phakamani] also advises me to not be a person who is found everywhere. He told me to behave and to make sure that I’m always in good environments and not do wrong things. So, he has been able to help me to not make the same mistakes he made.
“His situation hurts me because he is family, it will eat at me but it’s not something that’s on my mind a lot because I want to focus on building my career.
“So, paying a lot of attention on what happened to him will drag me back. So, I’m making sure that I use what happened to him as motivation to do better than him.”
