Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger got off the mark in Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Champions League group, beating St. Eloi Lupopo on Sunday evening.
Lupopo staged a surprise victory over Mokwena’s men in DR Congo but this evening the Algerian giants finally collected their first win.
Mokwena’s men scored twice in the second half via Marwane Khelif and Zakaria Naidji to climb above Lupopo.
Alger now sit on four from four match, level with Lupopo but with a better goal difference. Both are just one point behind Sundowns after their defeat Al Hilal on Friday.
The Sudanese giants lead Group C with eight points, with all to play for with two games remaining.
Sundowns now travel to Lupopo before hosting Mokwena’s Alger in the final match of the group stages, while the Algerian giants next host Al Hilal.
