Rulani breaks silence on Kaizer Chiefs rumours
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has addressed rumours linking him to a position with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

The 39-year-old is currently in Algeria, where he serves as the head coach of MC Alger. In his first season, Mokwena has led the North African team to the top of the league standings.

Mokwena gained prominence at Sundowns, where he won several trophies before being dismissed in 2024.

After spending nearly a year at Wydad Casablanca, his contract was terminated early in the season due to poor results. Since then, he has been frequently associated with a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi recently parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi, leaving his assistants to serve as caretaker coaches until the end of the season.

This week, Mokwena finally responded to rumours about a possible return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with Kaizer Chiefs.

“No, no, no,” Rulani responded to Sports Night Amplified when asked about his potential move to Kaizer Chiefs.

“I’m very happy here. I’ve got a contract here, and I’m very, very happy here.

“No, in fact, the conversations I’m having are with MC Alger for a new contract and to extend my stay here. Those are the only conversations that are taking place,” he concluded.

Rulani says no to Kaizer Chiefs

Mokwena is one of the few South African coaches to have left the PSL to coach in North Africa. Pitso Mosimane was the first to coach Egyptian giants, opening doors for the likes of Fadlu Davids and Steve Barker.

Should Chiefs go for Mokwena?
