Riveiro Opens Up On His Next Job
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Reddit

Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says he’d prefer to continue his coaching in Europe but wouldn’t say no to offers from Africa, Middle East or the USA – even if it meant being away from his home again.

The Spaniard ended his three-year chapter with the Buccaneers at the end of the last season and moved on to a new challenge with Al Ahly in Egypt.

During his time at Ezimnyama Ngenkani, Riveiro transformed the team into a formidable force, restoring their glory days and earning them the nickname “cup kings” after guiding them to five trophies.

When he left, there were claims that Riveiro was missing home, having been away from his family for some time.

He has firmly refuted this, insisting that kilometres won’t shape his next move and that he is ready to take up a coaching role anywhere in the world.

“It’s difficult to say [where I’d like to coach next] but the intention is to maybe or hopefully [coach] in Europe but I never say no to Africa, Middle East or USA,” said Riveiro during the interview with Robert Marawa on MSW.

“I’ve been already 11 years abroad from home since 2014. There was a narrative as a well about me missing my country and family and stuff like that. That’s not even close to be true.

“Obviously, I’m not a rock or a brick, I’m human. But when you decide to be a football coach, you have to assume some certain things and this is one.

“My decision is not gonna be determined by the kilometres between me and my home in this case. It’s gonna be related with so many things.

“That time will come because I still want to continue coaching. I’m still young, I’m 48 years old. I think I can still give something to the game.”
