Kaizer Chiefs have added Thabo Moloisane and Renaldo Leaner to their defensive options. Are they overlooking something more important, though?
Kaizer Chiefs add steel to their squad
With the acquisitions of Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch and Renaldo Leaner from Sekhukhune, Chiefs have upgraded their back four with the versatility and experience of Moloisane. Similarly, Leaner adds depth to their goalkeeping options. Now it seems obvious that the next step for the recruitment team is to add better options in the final third of the pitch.
Defence is the name of the game for Da Cruz
As you’ll know by now, Kaizer Chiefs have hired a new manager. There will be pressure on 53-year-old Frenchman Fernando Da Cruz to instil a proper playing identity at one of African football’s truly massive clubs. Because he likes to focus on tactical discipline and defensive structure, Chiefs fans shouldn’t be expecting their team to go all guns blazing to win games by halftime. After several periods of upheaval and interim managerial stints, fans will be eager to see the club stick with one man for an extended period. He’s got an interesting background, too.
World Cup watch
Tournament hosts the USA got dumped out of the tournament after losing 4-1 to Belgium in the Round of 16. All of this despite Donald Trump’s best efforts to bend the rules in their favour by overturning star striker Folarin Balogun’s suspension after a quiet word with FIFA president Gianni Infantino. Perhaps Belgium’s win is also a win for football. Here are the upcoming fixtures:
- Tue 7 July: Argentina vs Egypt, Round of 16, 18:00 kickoff.
- Tue 7 July: Switzerland vs Colombia, Round of 16, 22:00 kickoff.
- Thu 9 July: France vs Morocco, quarter-final, 22:00 kickoff
- Fri 10 July: Spain vs Belgium, quarter-final, 21:00 kickoff
- Sat 11 July, Norway vs England, quarter-final, 23:00 kickoff
