Reports: Kaizer Chiefs to sign Orlando Pirates striker?

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are said to be tracking Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who is currently on loan at Stellenbosch FC until the end of the season.

Amakhosi might have to sweat for the signagture. They face competition from Stellenbosch FC, AmaZulu FC and Al Ahly.

WHY KAIZER CHIEFS ARE KEEN ON TSHEGOFATSO MABASA

While Amakhosi signed two center forwards in Flavio Da Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro this season, Silva has had to carry the full load with Ighodaro’s injury-ravaged season only allowing him seven appearances.

The 29-year-old from Botshabelo is set to be a free agent when his deal with Orlando Pirates ends in June.

“Kaizer Chiefs are among a growing list of clubs monitoring striker Tshegofatso Mabasa ahead of his impending free agent status,” iDiski Times reported.

“Mabasa is currently on loan at Stellenbosch FC from Orlando Pirates until the end of June, after which he will be allowed to sign with a club of his choice effective July 1, when the transfer window opens,” the outlet added.

In Mabasa, Kaizer Chiefs would capture a striker with proven a Betway-Premiership scoring record and familiarity with the high expectations and hot pressures in Soweto.

A BETWAY PREMIERSHIP PLUG AND PLAY STRIKER

After making his debut as a teenager under Ernst Middendorp at Bloemfontein Celtic straight from Grey College in 2015, Mabasa consistently built his name as a goal-poacher.

His career reached new heights in the 2023/24 season when he claimed the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot with 16 goals.

He carried that momentum into the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign, becoming Orlando Pirates’ second all-time leading scorer with 50 goals, just eight goals behind Benedict Vilakazi’s record.

In the current 2025/26 season, Mabasa took on a new challenge with a six-month loan move to Stellenbosch FC in January 2026, where he has delivered four goals in 11 games.
