Reports: Kaizer Chiefs to announce this new CEO
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The experienced administrator has long been part of Kaizer Chiefs’ inner circle, previously serving as Managing Director before continuing his influence at board level.

Now, with Amakhosi looking to modernise how the club is run, Shongwe appears set to move into a more central executive position, as per Kick Off.

The expected change is part of a broader plan to reshape how responsibilities are divided within the club, particularly separating football matters from the business side of operations.

KAIZER CHIEFS RESTRUCTURE BEGINS AT THE TOP

At present, Amakhosi operate under executive chairman Kaizer Motaung, alongside a board that includes Jessica Motaung, Bobby Motaung, Mike Nkuna, Ari Lambropoulos, Hamid Muhammad and Moses Mashishi. However, the introduction of a CEO would mark a shift towards a more clearly defined corporate structure.

In this setup, Shongwe would oversee the club’s overall operations, while football decisions remain in the hands of sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr and football manager Bobby Motaung. It’s a model designed to improve efficiency and bring a sharper focus to both departments.

The timing is no coincidence. Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, and changes are expected to be finalised in the coming weeks as part of their off-season planning.

AMAKHOSI COACHING FUTURE STILL UNDECIDED

Away from the boardroom, another big call is looming. The Glamour Boys have been led by co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze since the departure of Nasreddine Nabi, with the pair tasked with guiding the team through to the end of the current campaign.

Their future remains uncertain beyond that point, with the club expected to review the technical setup once the season concludes.

There is still plenty to play for. Kaizer Chiefs sit on 47 points with four matches remaining. They are within reach of their best return since lifting the league title under Stuart Baxter in 2014/15 with 69 points. Their closest effort since then came under Ernst Middendorp, who guided them to 57 points in the 2019/20 season.

Beyond football, Shongwe’s profile adds weight to the potential appointment. With a strong background in business leadership, including roles in major companies and boardrooms. He brings experience that Kaizer Chiefs hope will strengthen their long-term vision.

Shongwe’s profile fits that vision. Beyond Kaizer Chiefs, he has built a strong corporate career. He served as chairman of Flow Communications and Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium.

Originally from Eswatini, he also has roots in the game. He played for Manzini Wanderers and Gaborone United before transitioning into business. Academically, he holds an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the University of South Australia. Along with a background in Economics and Accounting.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF KAIZER CHIEFS’ REPORTED PLANS TO APPOINT BHEKI SHONGWE AS THE CEO?
