Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly decided not to renew Gastón Sirino’s contract, bringing an end to the Uruguayan attacker’s two-year spell at the club.
The 35-year-old is set to leave Naturena at the end of June when his current deal expires.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star has endured mixed fortunes since making a high-profile move to Chiefs in 2024.
He leaves the Soweto giants after making 52 appearances, scoring five goals and playing a key role in the club’s 2025 Nedbank Cup triumph.
Sirino showed flashes of his quality during his first season at Kaizer Chiefs, but struggled to make a consistent impact in his second campaign due to limited game time.
According to Soccerbeat, Chiefs have opted against extending Sirino’s contract, meaning the experienced attacker will become a free agent once again.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi are also set to lose promising defender , who is reportedly on the verge of a move to Azerbaijan Premier League champions Sabah FK.
The 22-year-old is expected to join the Azerbaijani side, who secured qualification for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League after winning their domestic league title.
Kaizer Chiefs drops Sirino?
According to iDiski Times, McCarthy departed South Africa on Monday evening to finalise the transfer. The young defender is believed to have signed a three-year contract with an option to extend his stay.
Chiefs have already moved to strengthen their defensive options, with former Stellenbosch FC centre-back Thabo Moloisane arriving as McCarthy’s replacement.
With Amakhosi set to travel to Europe for their pre-season tour, they could be without several players whose contracts expire at the end of the month.
Sirino, George Matlou, Happy Mashiane, Samkelo Zwane and Reeve Frosler are all facing uncertain futures at Kaizer Chiefs.
Fernando Da Cruz is a favourite to land the coaching position replacing Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.
