Orlando Pirates starlet Cemran Dansin has achieved the rare feat of notching up accolades with his first senior professional goal, with his stunning strike recognised by both his club and the league as the best for the month of November.
After the Buccaneers found themselves trailing in a crucial league fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld, the midfielder provided a stunning equaliser when he volleyed from the edge of the box to leave goalkeeper Ronwen Williams stunned.
‘King among goals’
The spectacular goal was crowned king among goals scored by the Soweto giants earlier this week.
It netted its second accolade in a matter of days when it was deservingly named the Betway Premiership Goal of the Month on Wednesday.
Reflecting on the wonder strike which made waves beyond South Africa’s shores, the 20-year-old shared his delight at the recognition his maiden goal has received.
“It really means a lot to me because nobody expected me to score such an amazing goal in such an important fixture,” he told Orlandopiratesfc.co.za.
“It was a very special moment for me. It will never be forgotten.”
Steep rise
Cemran Dansin has enjoyed a steep rise from youth football to the senior ranks since joining the Buccaneers in the 2023/24 season.
His sparkling performances in the DStv Diski Challenge earned him a spot in the first team during the final stretch of the 2024/25 campaign where he debuted off the bench in a 3-0 league win over Golden Arrows.
He has since made 10 more senior appearances across competitions, including the CAF Champions League where he notched up his first senior assist.
According to the midfielder, he never expected that his breakthrough would be so sudden.
“To be honest I didn’t expect to play in the first team so soon but when the opportunity came I was proud of myself for breaking through and achieving so much in a short space of time.”
With Orlando Pirates in action for one last time in the coming weekend, Dansin is one of the players likely to take to the field in Durban.
They take on the Carling All-Stars XI in an exhibition match taking place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 15:30.
