Orlando Pirates face a demanding campaign after winning the 2025/26 Betway Premiership. They will defend their league crown while also returning to the CAF Champions League.

That makes this pre-season tour a crucial part of their preparations. It also offers Ouaddou an opportunity to begin preparing for life after Relebohile Mofokeng’s. Following his departure to Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

ORLANDO PIRATES LOOK TO BUILD MOMENTUM IN SPAIN

Orlando Pirates opened their five-match pre-season tour with a 1-1 draw against Córdoba CF.

Boitumelo Radiopane scored the equaliser in the 75th minute after the Bucs fell behind, ensuring they began their preparations with a draw.

While the result offered encouraging signs, Ouaddou and Orlando Pirates will no doubt be striving for their first victory on tour.

Next up is a clash against Cádiz CF on Saturday.

BUCS PREPARE FOR BETWAY PREMIERSHIP TITLE DEFENCE AND CAFCL RETURN

As defending Betway Premiership champions, Orlando Pirates enter the new campaign with high expectations.

The Bucs ended a 14-year wait for the league title last season. Now, they will attempt to retain their crown without Mofokeng, who completed a move to Belgium earlier this month.

Consequently, the pre-season tour gives Ouaddou the opportunity to build combinations, assess his squad and prepare for another demanding domestic and continental campaign.

Pirates will also return to the CAF Champions League after securing qualification through their league triumph.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns enter the competition as defending African champions after lifting the 2025/26 CAF Champions League trophy. Having finished above Sundowns in the Betway Premiership last season, the Bucs will believe they can compete against the continent’s best.
