Orlando Pirates could be set for squad changes at the end of the season, with reports suggesting Kabelo Dlamini and Bandile Shandu may be some of the players released.
The duo have struggled for regular game time this campaign under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, falling down the pecking order as new signings have made a strong impression.
Speaking on Soccer Beat, former Pirates winger Lebogang Mokoena shared his thoughts on the pair’s uncertain future, pointing to increased competition within the squad.
“I think the players that have come in have really established themselves,” Mokoena said. “You look at the inclusion of the ‘MasterChef’ coming in and doing well in that attacking midfield role.

“You also look at right-back. We had Sebelebele converted from a winger into a fullback, and then there’s Deano van Rooyen. It has become very difficult for players who have been here for a long time.”
Mokoena believes the lack of minutes for Dlamini and Shandu is a strong indication that the club may be preparing to move on from them.
“With the new players coming in, the competition has become stiffer. They have not played much halfway through the season, and I think that’s an indication the club might be reaching a point where they have to release them and give them an opportunity elsewhere.”
He added that managing a large squad is never easy, especially when several players compete for the same position.

“The more players you have in the same position, the more pressure and competition there is. You don’t want to keep unhappy players in the camp,” Mokoena concluded.
With the Pirates continuing to strengthen their squad, tough decisions may lie ahead as the club seeks to maintain balance and harmony heading into next season.
