Orlando Pirates to pounce on two ‘unhappy’ Sundowns forwards?

Orlando Pirates could turn to two underutilised Mamelodi Sundowns strikers as they look to sharpen their attack ahead of next season.

The Buccaneers have struggled for consistency in front of goal at crucial stages of the campaign, with questions raised over the productivity of current forwards Yanela Mbuthuma and Evidence Makgopa.

Despite leading the line for Pirates, the pair have managed just around 10 goals combined, leaving many supporters calling for reinforcements in the striking department.

Two players who could emerge as potential targets from Sundowns are Peter Shalulile and Iqraam Rayners.

Pirates might be stronger with Sundowns duo

Shalulile, once regarded as one of the most lethal strikers in the PSL, has endured a frustrating campaign at Sundowns.

The Namibian international has scored six goals in 24 appearances this season but has struggled for regular game time under Miguel Cardoso.

With his future at Chloorkop uncertain, the 33-year-old could be tempted by a move in search of more minutes and a fresh challenge.

Rayners is another Sundowns player who may attract interest from Pirates. The 30-year-old forward has found himself behind Brayan Leon in the pecking order since January, despite producing decent numbers this season.

The former Stellenbosch FC striker has netted 16 goals in 36 matches across all competitions, but opportunities in the starting line-up have become limited in 2026.

A move to Pirates could offer Rayners a chance to revive his status as a regular starter if the Soweto giants table the right offer.

Pirates have previously recruited from Sundowns, most notably with the signing of Sipho Mbule.

The midfielder however has struggled to make an impact and has recently fallen out of the matchday squad. If the Buccaneers can sign one of the two strikers, they might be deadly upfront.

Who should Pirates sign as a striker next season?
