Orlando Pirates have had 10 different goalscorers in the Betway Premiership. Kaizer Chiefs also have their own list of players in goalscoring contributions tally this term.
The two sides meet on Saturday in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby. Kick-off is set for 15:30 at the FNB Stadium.
KAIZER CHIEFS HAVE EIGHT DIFFERENT LEAGUE GOALSCORERS
Coach Fernando Da Cruz’s side have enjoyed goals from eight different players in the Betway Premiership this season.
Unsurprisingly, Wandile Duba tops the chart with three goals. ““I am very happy for Duba; he is a young player who sometimes has a lot of ups and downs, so he must improve his consistency,” coach Da Cruz told SABC.
“He is a young player who is very good, and he is able to drop back and make deep runs. He is very good in front of the goal, but he must continue to work hard and listen to the coaches, and maybe if he does this, he can become a player for Bafana Bafana,” the Frenchman added.
Hot on Duba’s heels are Mduduzi Shabalala and Lebohang Maboe with two strikes each.
Full list:
- Wandile Duba (Striker): 3 goals
- Mduduzi Shabalala (Forward): 2 goals
- Lebohang Maboe (Central midfielder): 2 goals
- Siphesihle Ndlovu (Central midfielder): 1 goal
- Mfundo Vilakazi (Forward): 1 goal
- Langelihle Phili (Winger): 1 goal
- Flavio Da Silva (Striker): 1 goal
- Luke Baartman (Forward): 1 goal.
There’s some clarity to note on Faiz Abrahams. His spectacular free-kick against Siwelele FC was subsequently credited as an own goal against Samukelo Xulu. The ball struck the post before rebounding into the net off Xulu’s head.
As a result, Abrahams does not feature among Kaizer Chiefs’ eight league goalscorers.
ORLANDO PIRATES MUST WATCH MORE THAN ONE PLAYER
For the Buccaneers, the challenge will be containing an Amakhosi attack that has received contributions from different areas of the pitch.
Duba, Shabalala and Maboe are among the players who can trouble the opposition, while the likes of Vilakazi and Baartman provide additional attacking options.
The Buccaneers will be aware that derbies are rarely decided by statistics alone. However, keeping Amakhosi’s attacking players quiet will be an important part of their preparations.
