Mamelodi Sundowns will be the away team to Orlando Pirates as the Premier Soccer League confirmed the venue on Monday night.
The Durban venue is familiar territory for the Buccaneers, having hosted three consecutive MTN8 finals involving the Buccaneers between 2022 and 2024.
The latest final adds another chapter to a rivalry that has produced several memorable encounters in the competition.
ORLANDO PIRATES DOMINATE THE MODERN MTN8 ERA
Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have met 14 times in the MTN8, including 10 semi-finals, two quarter-finals and two finals.
The most recent final between the sides came in 2023, when Pirates defeated Sundowns on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes. Sipho Chaine became the hero by saving three penalties as the Buccaneers won the shootout 3-1.
The Betway Premiership champions also eliminated Sundowns in the 2022 semi-finals, winning 3-0 on aggregate. The Buccaneers have since turned the MTN8 into their own territory, winning four consecutive titles between 2022 and 2025.
Their run started against AmaZulu in 2022, continued against Sundowns in 2023 and Stellenbosch FC in 2024, before another victory over Stellenbosch in 2025.
The 2025 triumph was historic, with Pirates defeating Stellenbosch 3-0 after extra time at Mbombela Stadium to become the first club to win four successive MTN8 titles.
The victory took their overall MTN8 tally to 14 trophies. Pirates have already created another piece of history this season. Their 4-0 aggregate victory over Sekhukhune United made them the first club to reach five consecutive MTN8 finals.
MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM RETURNS
Moses Mabhida Stadium has become an important venue in Pirates’ recent MTN8 history. The Durban stadium hosted the 2021 final, when Sundowns defeated Cape Town City, before becoming the stage for three consecutive finals involving Pirates.
The Buccaneers defeated AmaZulu at the venue in 2022, overcame Sundowns on penalties in 2023 and then beat Stellenbosch FC in the 2024 final.
Now Pirates will return to Moses Mabhida Stadium looking to claim a fifth consecutive MTN8 crown. For Sundowns, the final represents another opportunity to reclaim the trophy they last won in 2021.
The two giants will meet again on Saturday, 10 October at 18:00, with the MTN8 trophy on the line.
