The Sundowns match was originally scheduled for 1 August, but the Premier Soccer League (PSL) granted the postponement following a special request from Masandawana.
Kabo Yellow endured a difficult pre-season in July. The month was overshadowed by tragedy following the sudden passing of 26-year-old midfielder Jayden Adams. The club cancelled its opening friendly against Red Bull Salzburg as a mark of respect.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS END TOUR WITHOUT A WIN
When Sundowns eventually returned to action, they struggled to find their rhythm during their pre-season tour of Austria. Miguel Cardoso’s side also had to cope with several injuries and the departure of club legend Peter Shalulile.
The Brazilians finished the tour without a victory. They lost 2-0 to Al Hilal and drew 1-1 against Hertha Berlin and MC Alger. The results exposed areas that still need improvement ahead of the new campaign.

BETWAY PREMIERSHIP TITLE SLIPPED AWAY
Despite their difficult pre-season, Sundowns remain the reigning CAF Champions League winners. They lifted their second continental title after defeating FAR Rabat in the final of the 2025/26 competition.
Domestically, however, the club surrendered the Betway Premiership title after winning the previous eight league crowns. Costly dropped points, including a defeat to TS Galaxy, allowed Orlando Pirates to edge Masandawana by a single point and finish as champions.
