iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye has predicted that it’s going to be tough for Bafana Bafana to get a result against Mexico in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The event co-hosted by Mexico, the USA and Canada are Bafana’s return to the international stage in 16 years and has an extended format which is designed to give more teams a chance at making the second round.
In the three times Bafana have participated at the global showpiece, they have never reached the knockout phase. Now they come up against Mexico in the tournament opener in Mexico City before facing Czechia and South Korea later in Group A.
The former Kaizer Chiefs winger and part of the iDiski TV crew have travelled to the World Cup thanks to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
He watched the exhibition match between Mexico and South African legends from the 2010 World Cup opener and got a taste of the roar of the home fans and pleaded that the team avoids conceding at all costs.
“We have to be realistic. The Mexicans will play in front of their crowd which is an advantage for them,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I don’t think there will even be a draw, it’s going to be tough. I support my country, but we must be realistic it’s going to be difficult.
“I feel this should have been game number three for us because starting with them in front of their crowd they have pressure and they will come to us in numbers.
“I’m pleading with the players from the bottom of my heart to make us proud. At least try to hold Mexico to a draw and win one of the games between Czech Republic and South Korea.”
