KE NAKO: World Cup Memories of Mexico vs Bafana flood back
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

World Cup 2010 is something that none of us will ever forget. What a majestic experience. Turn to the person next to you right now and tell them where you were and how you felt when Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala lashed Bafana Bafana into the lead against Mexico.

Iconic commentary on an iconic moment from Peter Drury.

Suarez was the public enemy number one

Let’s get the horrible bit out of the way first. Uruguay, Liverpool and Barcelona legend Luis Suárez will never be forgiven for his antics against Ghana in the quarterfinals, and rightly so. But ask yourself, what would you do in that position?

Andrés Iniesta didn’t score many goals in his career, but boy did he score some crucial ones. A Champions League semifinal second-leg strike at Stamford Bridge in controversial circumstances springs to mind, but nothing as big as this one at Soccer City. And then, a penny for the thoughts of Arjen Robben, who had missed a gilt-edged chance to win the game but was foiled by Iker Casillas…

Mexico vs Bafana Bafana: 2026 World Cup opener key details

Mexico and South Africa will kick the 2026 World Cup off at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Incidentally, these sides also played the first match of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the first showpiece of its kind hosted on African soil. Co-hosts Mexico, ranked 15th in the world by FIFA, will be eager to get their campaign off to a winning start against a Bafana Bafana side ranked 60th best on the planet. Mexico vs South Africa kicks off on Thursday, 11 June at 21:00 CAT.
