Kaizer Chiefs Transfers: 3 attacking midfielders to sign – Part 3
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Reddit

With Kaizer Chiefs attacker Gastón Sirino reportedly heading for the exit and Mduduzi Shabalala carrying much of the creative responsibility, Amakhosi may need another technically gifted midfielder.

Youngsters Luke Baartman and Mfundo Vilakazi remain exciting prospects, but the club could still benefit from an experienced addition.

This is Part 3 of a three-part series profiling potential attacking midfield signings. Read part 1 here and part 2 here.

KAIZER CHIEFS SHOULD REVISIT JAMIE WEBBER

The Glamour Boys have tracked Jamie Webber for several years, and the timing could soon become favourable again.

The 28-year-old from Mitchells Plain currently plays for FC Tulsa in the USL Championship, where his contract runs until 30 November 2026. After two goals and four assitsts, the deal expires at the end of the American season, potentially opening the door for interested clubs.

While Webber built his reputation in the Betway Premiership as a central midfielder or advanced number eight, his role has evolved in the United States. This season, he has already featured six times as an attacking midfielder, with FC Tulsa pushing him closer to goal to maximise his creativity and eye for scoring opportunities.

For Kaizer Chiefs, that versatility could prove invaluable.

JAMIE WEBBER’S EXPERIENCE AND QUALITY

Webber began his professional career with Vasco da Gama and Stellenbosch FC before enjoying five productive seasons at SuperSport United. During that spell, he won the MTN8 and established himself as one of the league’s most reliable midfielders.

He later joined Sekhukhune United, but in 2025 chose to pursue an overseas challenge by signing for FC Tulsa in a record-breaking transfer.

The move has revitalised his career. Webber quickly became a key figure in the American side, contributing goals and assists while earning a contract extension through the end of the 2026 campaign.

A FAMILIAR TARGET FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

The Soweto giants previously explored signing Webber during his time at SuperSport United and again before his departure from Sekhukhune United.

Although he opted to move abroad, the midfielder remains a player who fits the profile Kaizer Chiefs have long admired. He combines technical quality with tactical intelligence and has demonstrated the ability to play in multiple midfield roles.

Should Kaizer Chiefs decide to strengthen their creative department again, revisiting their interest in Webber could make perfect sense, especially with his FC Tulsa contract set to expire at the end of November 2026.
