Kaizer Chiefs to chase R10 million next month

Kaizer Chiefs will compete in the MTN8 for the first time in two seasons after securing a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership.

Amakhosi will host Golden Arrows on 8 August as they begin their quest for a place in the semi-finals of the prestigious knockout competition.

The Soweto giants missed the previous two editions of the MTN8 after failing to finish inside the league’s top eight.

Under Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, Chiefs enjoyed their best league campaign in five years, ending the season in third place.

That achievement not only secured their return to the MTN8 but also earned them qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite that success, Ben Youssef and Kaze have since departed the club, with Fernando Da Cruz appointed as the new head coach.

The French-Portuguese tactician officially began his tenure on Wednesday and will lead the squad during their pre-season tour of Europe.

Amakhosi have also reshaped their squad ahead of the new campaign. Aden McCarthy has been sold, while George Matlou, Happy Mashiane and Tashreeq Morris were released following the expiry of their contracts.

Defender Thabo Moloisane is currently the club’s only new signing after joining as a free agent following his departure from Stellenbosch FC.

The MTN8 presents Kaizer Chiefs with another opportunity to challenge for silverware.

With R10 million in prize money on offer to the winners, lifting the trophy would mark Chiefs’ second piece of silverware in just over a year following their Nedbank Cup triumph in 2025, while also providing Fernando Da Cruz with the perfect start to his reign.
