Will Bradley Cross’ Chiefs form be enough for an AFCON spot?

Kaizer Chiefs have had little to no representation in the national side lately. These men could change this in the future.

Kaizer Chiefs had no players in the recent 23-man Bafana Bafana squad named by Hugo Broos for back-to-back friendlies against Panama.

This is nothing new with Broos consistantly opting against selecting Amakhosi stars. Kaizer Chiefs know this has to change – and soon. So, let’s take a look at the Amakhosi players who could represent Bafana Bafana in the future.

TALENTED KAIZER CHIEFS TRIO WITH THE POTENTIAL TO PLAY FOR BAFANA BAFANA IN THE FUTURE

As mentioned, currently their are no Kaizer Chiefs players in the national squad.

This is a worrying sign for Amakhosi fans with the 2026 FIFA World Cup around the corner. However, it won’t be like this forever. The stature and proud history of Kaizer Chiefs demands some much-needed succuss – in terms of silverware and performances and the form of the players being good enough to represent Bafana Bafana. These three men all possess the potential to play for the national side one day.

1. ADEN MCCARTHY

The tall defender plays with the calm and composure of an experienced veteran. He is years ahead of his time. Calm on the ball and dominant in the air, McCarthy has all the makings to be quality defender. Given the right guidance and management, I can see him turning into a future Bafana Bafana defender.

2) BRADLEY CROSS

This is another defender who has all the characteristics to mould into/grow into a player that is good enough for national selection. Furthermore, he is the other Amakhosi star who last made it into the Bafana Bafana mix.

3. MDUDUZI SHABALALA

‘Mdu or die’ looks set to miss out on the FIFA World Cup squad but that. Understandably, as he has only had a couple of seasons of regular first team football.

He has gone from Dstv Diski Challenge prodige to being a common starter for Kaizer Chiefs.

His vision, passing kills, dribbling ability, passion, positivity on the ball and willingness to take on defenders and shoot make him an exciting footballer to watch. Furthermore, he recently made it into Broos’ preliminary squad for Panama which. Meaning, the skilful Amakhosi prodige is in the national coaches mind and on the fringes of selection. Consistency is key and as he fine tunes his game and matures as a player, I can see him becoming good enough to represent Bafana Bafana one day.
