Orlando Pirates fans have had to say goodbye to Relebohile Mofokeng. The skilful star is set to play his football in Europe next season. More specifically, in Belgium where the Bafana Bafana attacker will run out for Percy Tau’s former club, Union SG.
Bucs management now have a big decision to make in determining which player will fill his boots.
They have been advised to look at a Kaizer Chiefs star as his potential replacement.
RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG LEAVES BIG BOOTS TO FILL
There is no doubt the 21-year-old Mofokeng will be hard to replace at Orlando Pirates.
However, with the 2026/27 PSL season around the corner, the Bucs don’t have time to waste.
They need to ensure they have a team that is good enough to defend their Betway Premiership crown. They will also want to be competitive as they return to the CAF Champions League.
So, they will need to either sign somebody to relace Mofokeng or trust someone in their ranks to take the step up.
The club has signed a few promising attackers in Bohale Ngwato and Matome Mmolai.
Ngwato was signed as a potential replacement for Mofokeng before he left, while Mmolai offers plenty of speed and skill up front.
Meanwhile, Tshepang Moremi will have to step up with more goal contributions if Orlando Pirates are to remain competitive across all competitions after releasing Mofokeng.

FOOTBALL ANALYST ADVISES ORLANDO PIRATES TO SIGN KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYER
Football analyst Uche Anuma thinks the Bucs should look for someone from outside the squad – and he believes that 20-year-old Kaizer Chiefs star Mfundo Vilakazi is is the right man for the job.
“While many may not agree, I think Mfundo Vilakazi can replace Mofokeng at Pirates. They are similar player who can play on the wings and also in the attacking midfield role,” Anuma stated on Briefly.
He went on to add that Vilkazi hasn’t been used correctly at Kaizer Chiefs and believes that Vilakazi would flourish under Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.
“Vilakazi hasn’t been utilised properly at Kaizer Chiefs, and I feel he would do better under Abdeslam Ouaddou,” he added.
There is no doubt that these are very bold claims. However, there is also no doubt that Vilakazi has tremendous potential too.
Orlando Pirates will need to make a call – and soon.
Bucs management must decide whether to entrust one of the players in their system to try and fill Mofokeng’s boots or if they should search externally for a player to sign.
