Kaizer Chiefs set for R6.4 million FIFA cash
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Reddit

Kaizer Chiefs are set to receive an estimated R6.4 million after Bafana Bafana’s historic qualification for the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Defender Bradley Cross is part of Hugo Broos’ squad.

The progression has increased the amount payable to Amakhosi through . It compensates clubs for releasing players to represent their countries at the World Cup.

KAIZER CHIEFS SET FOR BIGGER PAYOUT

Before the tournament began, Kaizer Chiefs were expected to earn around R2.4 million from Cross’ participation during the group stage.

However, Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the Round of 32 has extended the defender’s stay at the tournament. It has pushed the projected payment to approximately R6.4 million.

Importantly, the compensation is linked to a player’s inclusion in the official squad rather than the number of minutes played. Although Cross has yet to feature on the pitch, his presence in the 26-man squad ensures Kaizer Chiefs receive the financial benefit.

MORE MONEY STILL POSSIBLE

The figure could rise even further if South Africa continue their historic run in the competition.

A victory over Canada in the Round of 32 would keep Bafana Bafana in the tournament for longer. It will result in additional daily compensation for clubs with players in the squad.

TRAILING PAYMENTS ALSO EXPECTED

Beyond the payment linked to Cross, Kaizer Chiefs are also expected to receive smaller trailing benefits under FIFA regulations.

The system rewards clubs that represented players during the World Cup qualifying campaign, meaning Amakhosi could earn additional compensation from former players who featured in qualifying before moving elsewhere.

For now, though, Bafana Bafana’s run to the second round has already delivered a significant financial boost, with Kaizer Chiefs poised to pocket around R6.4 million thanks to Cross’ involvement in the squad.
