Kaizer Chiefs winger Langelihle Phili is set to begin his rehabilitation as he works his way back from an ankle injury.
The 21-year-old suffered the injury in training last month and is expected to be sidelined for at least another month.
Phili joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch at the start of the season and made an immediate impact after arriving at Naturena. His injury came at a time when he was beginning to find his rhythm with Amakhosi.
Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has now provided an update on the winger’s condition.
Phili has enjoyed life at Kaizer Chiefs so far
“He’s an important player for us, for that we signed him,” Da Cruz said.
“For the moment he didn’t work during 10 days and now he’s starting his rehabilitation.
“Technically he’s a good player. He’s a player who is able to make a difference, a player who’s able to eliminate 1 vs 1.
“But also, we have other players we work, we are trusting them and we create chances, it’s not a problem. Our main issue is we are not enough killer inside the two box.”
While Phili remains sidelined, Chiefs can call on Faiz Abrahams, who also joined the club from Stellenbosch.
Phili’s return will be welcomed by Da Cruz, although Chiefs continue to deal with several injury concerns.
Paseka Mako, Bradley Cross, Nkhayiso Shinga and Khanyisa Mayo are among the other players currently sidelined. Despite the injuries, Amakhosi are third in the Betway Premiership behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
