Kaizer Chiefs coaches to play their continental ‘ace’ this weekend

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for yet another squad overhaul following a frustrating season that has left supporters demanding change.

The Soweto giants have already been eliminated from three competitions, two of them within a matter of weeks and are in serious danger of finishing the campaign without silverware.

Their only realistic hope lies in the league, where a late surge in the Betway Premiership could yet salvage pride.

Currently, Amakhosi trail log leaders Orlando Pirates by eight points. However, Chiefs have two games in hand and still face their bitter rivals twice before the season concludes.

Kaizer Chiefs will look at this season as an improvement but more work is needed if they are to win big.

Despite signing more than 10 players in recent windows, Chiefs are expected to dip into the market again.

The Glamour Boys have previously been linked with Stellenbosch FC stars Thabo Moloisane and Jaedin Rhodes. Both players are believed to be attracting interest ahead of the new season.

Moloisane, in particular, is also reportedly on the radar of Mamelodi Sundowns, setting up a potential transfer battle between the PSL heavyweights.

Kaizer Chiefs could pach Shalulile

Another intriguing option could be Namibian striker Peter Shalulile. The prolific forward has struggled for regular game time under Miguel Cardoso at Chloorkop and may consider a fresh start if he becomes available on a free transfer.

Amakhosi are no strangers to recruiting former Sundowns players, having previously secured the services of Gastón Sirino and Lebohang Maboe.

Beyond player recruitment, questions remain over the technical team. Kaizer Chiefs are expected to part ways with Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze at the end of the season, opening the door for a high-profile appointment.

One name that continues to surface is Pitso Mosimane. The former Sundowns and Al Ahly mentor has previously admitted he would not rule out coaching Chiefs.

Speaking on the SMWX Podcast, Mosimane addressed speculation about a potential return to South African football:

“I’ve seen those on social media, I’ve seen that,” he said. “Look, it’s possible. Never say never in life. I was laughing when I saw Mike Tyson going back to boxing.

Mayweather came back, George Foreman came back. I don’t know, but yes, it is possible. Why not?”

Kaizer Chiefs return to action next week against Stellenbosch in a must-win encounter as they attempt to close the gap on Pirates and keep faint title hopes alive.

Another rebuild seems inevitable but whether it will finally deliver sustained success remains the big question at Naturena.

Can Chiefs challenge for the title?
