Kaizer Chiefs have paid tribute to former star Michael Nkambule, who tragically passed away on Friday.
The 37-year-old former footballer was involved in a car accident approximately two weeks ago. The vehicle he was driving reportedly overturned, leaving him seriously injured.
After spending two weeks in hospital, the former Chiefs midfielder sadly succumbed to his injuries, as reported by Soccer Laduma.
On Saturday, his former club paid tribute to Nkambule, remembering him as a product of the Kaizer Chiefs academy.
“Kaizer Chiefs Football Club and the entire Kaizer Chiefs family deeply regret the passing of Michael Nkambule, a former academy graduate and player for the Kaizer Chiefs first team from 2007 to 2010,” the club said in a statement.
“A product of the Kaizer Chiefs academy, who earned a move to France in 2003 after impressing scouts with his performances for the Kaizer Chiefs U15 team at the Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland.”

After leaving Chiefs, Nkambule went on to represent Black Leopards and SuperSport United. However, the midfielder’s professional career did not reach the heights expected of him, and he retired before turning 30.
Despite ending his professional career early, Nkambule remained deeply involved in football and regularly featured in legends’ matches.
