Kaizer Chiefs hammer Orbit College to take third place

Kaizer Chiefs had to work for it, but they eventually did enough to beat Orbit College 3-1 .

Orbit started brightly and nearly caught Amakhosi off guard in the 30th second, when Thabang Mahlangu won the ball off Given Msimango, only to be closed down quickly by Inacio Miguel.

By the 5th minute, Mahlangu was again involved, turning well inside the box before hitting the post with a low effort. Amakhosi settled and created their own chance in the 13th minute, with Glody Lilepo striking a left-footed volley just over the bar.

KAIZER CHIEFS FIND THEIR RHYTHM AFTER SLOW START

The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute, as Mbulelo Magaba’s header from a free-kick slipped through Bruce Bvuma’s hands to give Orbit the lead. Kaizer Chiefs responded late in the half, and in the 42nd minute, a well-delivered Bradley Cross balled was controlled and finished neatly by Wandile Duba with a left-footed volley to make it 1-1 going into the break.

SECOND-HALF IMPROVEMENT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Kaizer Chiefs looked more settled after halftime but still had to be patient. In the 66th minute, they missed a clear opportunity. Lilepo set up Mduduzi Shabalala, who shot wide with just the goalkeeper to beat.

A minute later, though, they made it count. In the 67th minute, a move involving Thabiso Monyane and a clever dummy from Duba created space for Shabalala. The Soweto-born star finished calmly to make it 2-1. Kaizer Chiefs added another in the 78th minute. Substitute Siphesihle Ndlovu scored from the edge of the box after a good touch from Flavio Silva.
