The Kaizer Chiefs left-back’s setback comes as Fernando Da Cruz continues preparing his squad for the new Betway Premiership season.
Amakhosi have already played two pre-season friendlies in Spain, drawing 1-1 against Rangers FC and Al Khalood. The injury occurred during Tuesday’s 1-1 friendly draw against Al Khalood, forcing the left-back to return to South Africa before the club’s preparations in Spain are complete.
PASEKA MAKO RETURNS HOME
Confirming the setback, Kaizer Chiefs said: “Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season preparations in Spain, led by coach Fernando Da Cruz, are progressing well as the team gears up for the new campaign. However, defender Paseka Mako has suffered a setback after fracturing his forearm during Tuesday’s friendly match against Al Khalood.”
The club also confirmed that the experienced defender has travelled back to South Africa to begin his recovery. Amakhosi have moved quickly to ensure Mako receives specialist medical care before determining the next stage of his rehabilitation.
KAIZER CHIEFS PROVIDE RECOVERY UPDATE
Providing an update on Mako’s condition, the club added: “Mako has returned to South Africa for medical care and will consult a specialist orthopaedic surgeon for further assessment. He is expected to rejoin his teammates in the coming weeks once his recovery is underway.”
While Mako begins his rehabilitation, the remainder of the Kaizer Chiefs squad will continue their pre-season programme in Spain. The Soweto giants are using the camp to build fitness, integrate new signings and prepare for the start of the Betway Premiership campaign under Da Cruz.
The Glamour Boys will hope Mako’s recovery progresses as planned so that the experienced defender can rejoin his teammates in the coming weeks and continue his preparations for the new season.
Kaizer Chiefs’ remaining left-back options after Paseka Mako‘s injury are Bradley Cross, Kabelo Nkgwesa (under assessment), Nkanyiso Shinga (set to depart) and Ofentse Kgosana, who is still with the DStv Diski Challenge team.
