‘If Kaizer Chiefs want me, they must come get me’

‘Chiefs will play like Pirates and Sundowns soon’ – Pitso
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Veteran coach Pitso Mosimane has dismissed speculation that he may apply for the Kaizer Chiefs coaching position, insisting he has reached a point in his career where clubs approach him – not the other way around.

The 61-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns manager continues to be linked with high-profile roles in South African football.

However, Mosimane says he will not be submitting an application for the Amakhosi job following the departure of Nasreddine Nabi.

‘Relies on reputation and achievements’

Mosimane said he now relies on his reputation and achievements to open doors rather than actively pursuing positions.

With Nabi gone, his former assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have been entrusted with leading the team until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Kaizer Chiefs remain under pressure to rebuild after several inconsistent campaigns, prompting speculation that Mosimane – one of South Africa’s most successful coaches – could be targeted.

But Mosimane made it clear that any club wanting his services must initiate the approach.

‘Jingles’, who has enjoyed success both locally and abroad, expressed confidence that he still has the pedigree to lead a top side should the right opportunity come his way.

Explained the situation

Speaking to Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000, the Mosimane explained his situation.

“You must remember that at the point I am, I don’t apply for jobs, and that’s not being egoistic. It’s about the plan, and you must show me the plan,” he said.

“As I’m talking to you today, there’s a possibility that anytime from now I might have a club. Almost every second week, there’s a team that’s available and asks if we can work together.

“I mean, you can’t tell me that in Africa, there’s no team I can’t coach, and even in the Gulf region, I do have options, but it must be proper and challenging for me.”

A return to South Africa not out of the question for Pitso Mosimane

“I can’t say I will never coach again at home. I will coach any team in the country that shows me why I need to come here and what you would bring to the table,” Mosimane added.

“Because I can also ask, what have you been doing, why are we where we are, where can we accept our shortfalls, and how do we address that to get better? Not today or tomorrow, but it takes time.

“Brendan Rodgers talked about a three-year plan, and I was laughing, and I said in the UK, yes, but we can have a plan because I was at (Mamelodi) Sundowns for eight years and SuperSport United for six years, and you must have a plan.”

Would Pitso Mosimane be a good fit as Kaizer Chiefs coach?
