‘I missed a sitter on purpose to spite Muhsin’ – Ex-Chiefs striker admits
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Phumlani Mkhize has admitted he once missed an easy chance to score on purpose to spite a coach.

The retired forward played for both Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates, but it was at the Buccaneers and African Wanderers where he made his name.

Speaking to KickOff, Mkhize expressed shock at the chance missed by Amakhosi’s striker, Ashley Du Preez against AS Simba in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Chiefs striker missed a golden chance to put his team infront which would have potentially given the Glamour Boys an away win.

“To be honest, I’m still shocked at how Du Preez missed that goal,” Mkhize said.

“I think it has to do with him losing his father. He tends to miss easy chances but scores the most difficult ones.”

Former Chiefs and Pirates striker weighs in on Du Preez miss

The ex-Pirates forward hinted that maybe Du Preez was unhappy with his position at Chiefs which could have played a part in him missing an easy goal on Saturday.

“I’m not suggesting that Du Preez missed on purpose, but sometimes a player may be unhappy with a coach who doesn’t value them enough or who doesn’t start them in most games. This can lead to a player not putting in their full effort for that coach.

“I remember when I was at Chiefs, I once missed an easy chance on purpose, just to spite our coach, Muhsin Ertugral,” the former striker added.
