Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt says he is uncertain if his winger Langelihle Phili will join Kaizer Chiefs in the coming days.
The 21-year-old attacker has been heavily linked with a move to Amakhosi recently.
According to various reports, Phili’s move to Chiefs is almost a done deal with Ashley Du Preez and Given Msimango expected to join Stellenbosch.
“Obviously you don’t want to lose the player,” Hunt when asked about Phili.
“He’s one of the hottest properties in South African football, right now. You don’t want to lose him.
“But I mean circumstances, contractual circumstances and all those type of things come into play.
“It’s been a lot of media speculation and I’m sure the next day or two we’ll hear some more…”
I don’t know [what’s going to happen]; right now I came to the press conference and another [Stellies] player got sold.”
Kaizer Chiefs closing on Phili
In terms of competing for top honours this season, the former SuperSport United ruled his team out of the equation, feeling the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns had too much quality.
“How are you going to compete against the two giants right now?” Hunt said as per IOL.
“We obviously want to compete and we will compete in every game we play. But you need to be realistic, get the squad playing and try to get as many points as we can. That always gives you momentum.”
It remains to be seen if Kaizer Chiefs will sign Phili before their Betway Premiership opener against Kruger United.
