Durban City head coach Gavin Hunt has opened up on his sacking by SuperSport United, saying he believes they could’ve made the top half bracket of the table.
Hunt finished the 2024/25 season without a club after he was fired by SuperSport for a poor run of results which saw Matsatsantsa drop closer to relegation.
Hunt felt hard done by United for firing him and believes that they would’ve finished in the top eight if he was kept by the club.
“That was the first time I was out for two months – and it was killing me,” Hunt told iDiski Times.
“SuperSport [United], there were five or six games to go, but the change was made. We can argue the facts [of the team’s poor performances all day], but they did what they did [firing me], and I was disappointed because I thought, you know, I knew we could get out of it [relegation quagmire].
“I believed we could’ve made the top eight. Behind the scenes, there were talks about the club being sold; many players were out of contract… You could see that the players were affected. It was tough. But the players gave me their all. The day I lose that passion is the day I stop.
“Those two months off were hard. People told me to take a break – I told them, when I take a break, it’ll be permanent. I still love training, the day-to-day.
“I’m not ready to just sit and watch yet.”
