Orlando Pirates have officially ended their 14-year wait to be crowned PSL champions.
The Buccaneers sealed the 2025/26 Betway Premiership title following a 2-0 victory over Orbit College on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, thanks to their defeat, Orbit College were relegated and will be replaced by Kruger United next season.
The Soweto giants will now walk away with far more than just silverware and bragging rights.
ORLANDO PIRATES SECURE R20 MILLION PAY DAY
As reported on The South African, the winners of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership will receive around R20 million in prize money.
That massive financial reward now belongs to Orlando Pirates after their historic title triumph.
The Buccaneers entered the final fixture knowing that victory would secure the league crown.
They delivered under immense pressure and finally brought the Betway Premiership trophy back to Mayfair for the first time since the 2011/12 season, ending a 14-year wait.
BUCS STARS DELIVER THROUGHOUT THE SEASON
Several Orlando Pirates stars played major roles in the club’s title-winning campaign.
Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis have emerged as leading contenders for the PSL Player of the Season award after producing consistently outstanding performances.
Meanwhile, Evidence Makgopa, Tshepang Moremi, Patrick Maswanganyi and Kamogelo Sebelebele gave Orlando Pirates an attacking edge throughout the campaign with their pace, movement and quality in the final third.
Thalente Mbatha marshalled the midfield superbly throughout the season.
At the back, Bucs captain Nkosinathi Sibisi led with composure, authority and resilience, while goalkeeper Sipho Chaine also enjoyed a sensational season between the posts.
The Buccaneers shot-stopper kept a record 21 clean sheets in 30 Betway Premiership appearances, cementing his status as one of the league’s top goalkeepers.
BAFANA BAFANA FIFA WORLD CUP REWARDS COULD FOLLOW
The success of Orlando Pirates this season could also translate into strong representation for Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Several Buccaneers stars now appear well-positioned to make Hugo Broos’s final squad following their exceptional domestic campaign.
NINE Orlando Pirates players were included in the 32-man provisional squad, namely Nkosinathi Sibisi, Sipho Chaine, Relebohile Mofokeng, Evidence Makgopa, Oswin Appollis, Tshepang Moremi, Patrick Maswanganyi, Thalente Mbatha and Kamogelo Sebelebele.
However, Hugo Broos will still have to cut six players before announcing his final 26-man Bafana Bafana squad for the tournament on Wednesday, 27 May.
