Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster has sent a message to those who criticised and questioned his commitment to the national team.
The 25-year-old has been an integral part of Hugo Broos’ squad that qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back and also the milestone of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup next year. Foster who missed the last qualifier against Rwanda with injury was heavily criticised for missing chances in the penultimate qualifier against Zimbabwe.

He told iDiski Times senior writer Lorenz Köhler in edition 227 that he noticed the criticism saying he can’t change what happened and also referred a famous quote from Theodore Roosevelt as something he leans on during such times.
“I saw all the hatred against me after the game against Zimbabwe,” Foster told iDiski Times.
“I’m instinctive; I did what I did. At the end of the day, what happened, happened. I read something, you must Google it, it’s called ‘The Man In The Arena.’ It’s not the critic who counts, it’s not the people, it’s us that are on the field, that are daring to f$#k up every day, that are daring to make mistakes, that are daring to sit on the bench, that are daring to fly, to leave our home, to take risks.
“Yes and come back every single time to come and play for the country and the people that we love, and all those that talk [and criticise] will talk, they will talk. But if you question my commitment? That’s on you! I love being here with my country.
“I could have easily gone home today. I wanted to stay, to be here with the boys, because I knew this moment was…. [important]. I just… I’m grateful for this; it’s God’s will to be here, with people I look up to growing up. Like Ronza [Ronwen Williams], for example, a true role model for me since I was young.
“So yeah, man – I don’t think my commitment should be questioned.”
