Former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalin Ben Youssef has identified what the club needs to return to the top.
Alongside Cedric Kaze, Ben Youssef guided the team to a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership.
Despite helping Amakhosi to their best finish in six years, the duo were let go by the club management.
Speaking to Andile Ncube on Sports Amplified, Ben Youssef highlighted a few things Chiefs needed to compete at the highest level
“The team needs one left winger, one midfielder, one left full-back, one goalkeeper and one centre back,” the former Kaizer Chiefs coach said..
“The ‘keeper is to support Bruce [Bvuma] and Brandon [Petersen].”
“The other four players must be top players ready to play immediately. They must not have injuries or not be playing,” he added.
Ben Youssef said Chiefs should buy quality players instead of just picking from their development.
“They must be from the top division and ready to play if we want to compete to win the PSL.
“Otherwise they [Chiefs] can continue the same, bringing in players without experience, and you continue to build step by step, and you take your time to be ready to compete.”
Kaizer Chiefs appoint new coach
On Wednesday, Chiefs announced that Fernando Da Cruz was their new coach. The experienced coach worked with Khalil Ben Youssef and Nasreddine Nabi briefly at the club before leaving for Morocco.
Da Cruz has signed a two-year contract with Chiefs with a one-year option.
