FIFA to pay over R50 million to Mamelodi Sundowns

South Africa’s famous 1-0 win over South Korea in the 2026 FIFA World Cup featured a host of Sundowns players.

The CAF Champions League holders have eight players in Hugo Broos’ squad. This makes them one of the biggest beneficiaries of FIFA’s . The programme rewards clubs for releasing players to the global tournament.

EIGHT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS PLAYERS IN THE SQUAD

The eight Mamelodi Sundowns representatives are Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Khulumani Ndamane, Aubrey Modiba, Teboho Mokoena, Jayden Adams, Iqraam Rayners and Themba Zwane.

With Bafana Bafana progressing to the second round after their historic group-stage campaign, the projected payout to Mamelodi Sundowns has climbed to around R56.15 million.

FIFA’s compensation model is based on a player’s inclusion in the official World Cup squad. This means clubs are rewarded regardless of whether the player starts matches or features from the bench.

MORE MILLIONS COULD BE EARNED

The figure could still increase if Bafana Bafana continue their remarkable run in the tournament.

Should South Africa defeat Canada and advance to the next stage, Mamelodi Sundowns would receive additional compensation for every extra day their players remain involved in the competition.

MAJOR FINANCIAL BOOST

The World Cup campaign has therefore delivered a significant financial reward for Mamelodi Sundowns. The club is expected to pocket more than R56 million from the participation of its eight internationals.

As Bafana Bafana chase more history on the pitch, Mamelodi Sundowns stand to benefit further off it through FIFA’s lucrativecompensation programme.
