Former Bafana Bafana and Manchester United star Quinton Fortune says Orlando Pirates star must soon leave South Africa for greener pastures in Europe.

Mofokeng produced a superb performance in Bafana’s final 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage match against South Korea, inspiring Hugo Broos’ side to a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

The talented midfielder played a key role throughout the contest, helping South Africa secure qualification for the Round of 32 at the World Cup with an impressive display against one of Asia’s strongest teams.

Fortune believes performance of that calibre proves Mofokeng is ready for European football.

The former Manchester United star argues that the 20-year-old’s development could stagnate if he remains in the Betway Premiership for too long instead of testing himself abroad.

“The only thing I wanted to say when I saw him is that he needs to leave South Africa,” Fortune said on Sporty TV.

“This talent is a waste, I’m sorry if I’m….I want that talent to go to the next level. Playing at that level against such a top team in the group and putting that performance, oh my goodness.

“He’s got to go, I’m not being the bad person here but he has to go.”
