Former TS Galaxy head coach Bernard Parker has opened up about his departure from the club following a disappointing run of results.
After suffering back-to-back defeats against newly promoted Kruger United and Chippa United, the former Kaizer Chiefs striker was seemingly demoted by club chairman Tim Sukazi.
A few weeks later, Parker left the club and has since sought to earn a UEFA coaching badge after the Rockets chairman also encouraged him to obtain his coaching badges.
Sukazi subsequently explained his decision to demote Parker, describing the defeat to Kruger United as TS Galaxy’s “worst match ever”.
Parker, though, believes the circumstances surrounding that defeat should be taken into consideration, pointing out that his team had a player sent off early in the second half.
Parker defends himself after TS Galaxy exit
“Coming to being the worst game ever, getting a red card in the beginning of the (second half), and then you cannot play your own game anymore,” he told Robert Marawa.
Parker also defended his team’s performance against Chippa United, insisting that they played better but failed to take their chances.
“It’s normal; it’s football. You cannot play your own game anymore. Now you have to tweak and see how you can still get a result out of this game. I believe I did get the correct decision. It’s just that we missed the last chance we got, and we conceded. So, anyone will feel in some type of way in terms of losing in the Derby,” he said.
The former Bafana Bafana striker explained that his team had prepared well for the Chippa encounter and showed improvement on the pitch.
“Also, the week after that, we went back to the same stadium, and we prepared well. We played better (against Chippa). We (TS Galaxy) played better,” Parker insisted.
“We played our game. We were fully in charge, and the players were fully psyched up. The players were feeling more confident, and that was because of the preparation that was happening during the week.”
Following his exit from TS Galaxy, Parker has confirmed that he has enrolled for his UEFA coaching badges, with his studies set to begin in November.
The former Kaizer Chiefs striker will now look to strengthen his coaching credentials as he continues to pursue a career in football management.
