Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has given his assessment of new signing Elias Mokwana following the winger’s arrival at Naturena.
The 27-year-old joined Amakhosi this week as a free agent after spells with Tunisian giants Espérance and a stint in Saudi Arabia.
Mokwana found himself without a club this season before being linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs last week. On Wednesday, the Glamour Boys officially announced his signing.
Da Cruz has, however, warned Chiefs supporters that they may have to wait a little longer before seeing the Bafana Bafana international in action.
“Elias Mokwana is a very good player, an experienced player with international experience, he has a lot of quality,” Da Cruz said.
“With no pre-season? It will be tough, but during the upcoming FIFA break, it will be the time to integrate him into the team, step by step.”
Kaizer Chiefs face Siwelele this weekend, but Mokwana will not be available for selection.
The FIFA international break will allow the Chiefs technical team to assess his fitness and gradually integrate him into the squad before making him available for selection in the coming weeks.
Mokwana a good signing for Chiefs
Mokwana is no stranger to the Betway Premiership, having previously represented Sekhukhune United before moving to North Africa in 2024.
The talented Bafana winger will need to be at his best if he is to break into the Amakhosi team. The Glamour Boys have six wingers currently.
