The result leaves Sundowns with 65 points, just three points ahead of Orlando Pirates in second place, who hold a game in hand after their hard-fought victory over Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday.

Kabo Yellow dominated possession early, moving the ball quickly through midfield in search of openings.

KAIZER CHIEFS GRAB AN EARLY SHOCK LEAD

But Kaizer Chiefs held their shape well, closing spaces and forcing Sundowns into low-percentage chances. When they won the ball, Amakhosi looked dangerous on transition, using pace out wide to stretch the hosts.

Against the run of play, a sloppy pass from Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was intercepted by Pule Mmodi, who found Mduduzi Shabalala before the youngster laid a light touch to set up Flavio Da Silva. The Guinea-Bissau international kept his composure before finding the finish with his left boot past Williams.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS RESPONSE THROUGH BRAYAN LEON

After taking the unexpected lead to half time, Kaizer Chiefs’ resolute defence was finally broken. Colombian star striker Leon delivered once again.
