Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has opened up on just how important the goalkeeper is to the way Amakhosi are currently playing, especially during a crucial stage of the Betway Premiership season.
For Kaze, Petersen is more than just a shot-stopper, he’s one of the pillars of the team.
KAIZER CHIEFS DEFENCE FEELS THE DIFFERENCE
The 31-year-old from Elsies River, Cape Town returned to the team on Sunday after facing an appendix operation.
According to Kaze, Chiefs have looked more settled defensively in matches where Petersen is in goal, and that’s not by accident.
There’s a calmness that spreads through the backline, and it often shows in how the team manages pressure and closes out games.

The Cape Town Spurs academy graduate has 11 clean sheets in 18 league appearances and conceded only eight goals.
“About Brandon, he is our captain,” said Kaze. “He is a player that gives you that confidence. He is a player that gives you the stability as well in the back. “He is a player who is a leader on the field, off the field as well.
“We are happy that he is back, and I hope that his performance will be good going forward,” Kaze concluded on the Chiefs number one.
MAGESI FC IN LIMPOPO
In the meantime, the Soweto giants travel to Polokwane to face Magesi FC on Wednesday 15 April in the only midweek Betway Premiership game.
The original fixture was set for November 2025, but it had to be pushed back due to Chiefs’ involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup. That delay forced the league to adjust the schedule, bringing the return leg forward into April and squeezing the two meetings into a much shorter space of time.
The most recent clash between the sides took place on 21 March 2026, where Amakhosi produced a solid 2-0 win at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The difference on the day came from two academy graduates, with Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi both finding the net to seal the result.
