Chiefs co-coach reacts after Richards Bay loss
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has reacted to his team’s defeat to Richards Bay on Tuesday evening.

Amakhosi succumbed to their fourth league defeat of the season after going down 1-0 to Natal Rich Boys at uMhlathuze Sports Complex on Tuesday night.

Chiefs had the majority possession in the first half but failed to break the Richards Bay defence.

“Of course, it’s true that we had a possession in the first half, but I would say it was a sterile possession without breaking lines,” Kaze told

“Without threatening the opponent box. I think probably we had too much players that are fit ballers and not enough runners behind the defensive line.”

Chiefs fall to Richards Bay

Despite the coaches making changes in the second half, it was Richards Bay who scored in the second half to secure all three points.

“We tried to correct that in the second half with the introduction of [Glody] Lilepo and someone like [Mduduzi] Shabalala and [Luke] Baartman as well.

“But unfortunately, we concede a goal.”

Kaze is hopeful that Amakhosi will bounce back after three successive league defeats.

“I believe that it’s gonna pass. The moment is gonna pass,” the Chiefs coach said after the Richards Bay defeat.

“It’s a very bad moment but we need to keep together. We need to stay together and work very hard.”

Amakhosi are next in action at home against Durban City on 15 March, looking for their first win in over a month. With the league out of reach, the Glamour Boys are eyeing to finish third in the league and secure CAF Confederation Cup spot.

A loss to Richards Bay has put more pressure on Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze as Chiefs search for a new coach. It remains to be seen if the two co-coaches will stay at the club until the end of the season.

Can Chiefs bounce back?
