Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed “the last details” they are working on this week ahead of facing Mexico on Thursday in the 2026 FIFA World Cup opener.
The two sides will face off in the much-anticipated outing set to take place at Estadio Azteca, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 pm [SA time].
Bafana have not tasted a victory in their last five matches, including an AFCON tie against Cameroon, FIFA international friendlies, and preparation matches for the World Cup.
Broos said this week that they are working on where to hurt Mexico, looking closely at their weaknesses and their qualities ahead of the match.
“We know the opponents that we will face on Thursday and the next days will be focused on that,” said Broos, per Mahlatse Mphahlele.
“We will work on how we will play when they have the ball and what we are going to do when we have the ball.
“And these are the last details we have to work tomorrow [Monday] and Tuesday and Wednesday, it’s matchday minus one, we don’t do much.
“But these days, everything will be focused on that game and on the qualities and weaknesses of Mexico – where can we be dangerous and hurt them. This is the work we are going to do this week.”
